About Layla

Layla thought that our first post on our new blog should be "About Us".  After reading about her below, I thought that I could say a few more things about Layla, and in so doing, I may be able to sneak in a few things about myself.

Layla's dad and Layla are competing for the "Most Amazing Person I Know" crown and sash.  Layla is 7 years old, born in 2003, when I was 25.   I was the first of my friends to bear children, and I can't help thinking that Layla inspired a number of parents to start reproducing earlier than planned.  You see, Layla is perfect.  She is physically beautiful, intellectually intelligent and empathetic to a fault.  Even her faults are perfect in their imperfection.

At times, my own self-worth is at risk when I entertain the idea that the ultimate reason for my existence just may be to raise Layla.  However, so that I don't get in trouble with my Presbyterian family-in-law by comparing myself to the Virgin Mary, and because I was raised to believe that we all have something special and unique to offer to the world, I can't help wondering that it was only through the birth of Layla that my own values and passions would start taking shape and color.

  1. I think, and have always thought, that having children was the ultimate marker for being the most truly giving person you can be. Raising kids (or in my case, kid) is very hard work, and you are the most patient, kind, smart mother I know. This Presbyterian in law thinks you are doing a bang up job. Your children are bright, well rounded, and well adjusted. You can tell they come from a loving home and family.
